Pune district’s road connectivity

The pune district has total length of 13,642 km of roads(2001). Of the total road length in the district, 331 km road length is covered by National Highways and 1368 km by State Highways. The major and other district roads have a total length of 5388 km, which passes through all the talukas. 

About the National Highways –

1. National Highway No. 4 (Mumbai-Banglore) – The NH-4 passes through the following places in the district: Khandala, Lonavala, talegaon, Chinchwad, Pune and Khed-Shivapur. It enters from Raigad district and exits in Satara district and the total length of NH4 in the district is 120 km.
2. National Highway No. 9 (Pune-Solapur-Hyderabad )- The NH-9 starts at Pune district and passes through Loni, Bhigawan and Indapur. It exists in Solapur district and the total length of NH9 in the district is 152km.
3. National Highway No. 50 (Pune-Nashik) – The NH-50 originates at Pune and passes through Chakan, Rajgurunagar, Manchar, Narayangaon, Aalephata and it exits in Nashik district and the total length of NH50 in the district is 95km.

Writing about the internal roads in Pune district, there are around 300+ main roads that internally connect only PMC in Pune district. PCMC has more and these internal roads play a vital role in the expansion and development of the district.

The expansion and development of west Pune area is a major topic to be written on. The western area of Pune district contains the areas mainly connected to the NH-4 (Mumbai – Bangalore) highway and thus these localities have a strong demand in the real estate market. Also the IT sectors in these areas are developing with a great speed. All the national highways play a vital role in the development of this district’s infrastructure.

The ring road that is proposed in the district is in its development stage and will be a massive turn point in the city’s development, transportation and connectivity. The land acquisition for the project has already been started and the project will be completed in four phases.
